Volunteer Training

General Information – In an effort to promote a safe environment, all volunteers are required to complete various levels of training, depending on the particular area of participation.  In addition to training specific to the duties in each area, prior to participating, most volunteers will also be required to complete Essential 3 training.

Essential 3 consists of the following:

  • Attending a “Protecting God’s Children for Adults” in person training session
  • Code of Conduct for Volunteers online acknowledgement
  • Background Check online consent
  • Reporting Suspected Child Abuse completion online

Time commitment – in addition to the time commitment listed under each particular volunteer opportunity, the Essential 3 time commitment is as follows:  3-4 hours for the “Protecting God’s Children for Adults” (one evening) and around 30 minutes for the other Essential 3 elements.  In addition, an online “Keeping the Promise Alive” refresher course is required every 3 years.  This usually can be easily completed in less than 30 minutes.

Interested? – Please open the VIRTUS Account Registration Guide.  This guide includes instructions to complete the Essential 3 requirements needed.  Those without the ability to complete training online are invited to call the parish office to learn about alternative methods to completing Essential 3 training.
